The Company is a private limited company that was formed in 1926. The shares of the company are owned by a charitable trust - the Badgworthy Trust for the Preservation of Exmoor. It owns 7,300 acres of land in the Exmoor National Park much of which is open moorland. The Company's policy is for the preservation of Exmoor through proper management and conservation. In addition to its own land holdings, the Company holds rights over other land both within and outside the National Park boundary. It owns such well known sites as the Doone Country of Badgworthy and Snowdrop Valley at Cutcombe, Brendon and Lynton Commons.
